We learnt that unbalanced forces cause a change in the motion of an object. We used water and alka seltzer tablets to cause a pressure change in our rocket canisters.
When the Alka Seltzer tablet is added to water a chemical reaction occurs and CO2 is produced. As more CO2 is produced, the pressure inside the cannister increases until the seal of the lid is broken. The release of pressure provides the ‘push’ that launches the rocket.
In Science this week, we have been learning about the forces needed to make rockets work! We know that a force is needed to make a rocket fly. It could be a puff, push, or thrust.
For our first experiment, we made puff rockets, and then tried to answer these two questions by changing our puff strength and angle of release:

Room 19 enjoys time in our school library every week. Thanks to the awesome librarians who make this such a special place for us to visit.
Week 7 is Book Week at Owairaka. Room 19 will be completing lots of exciting literacy activities, culminating in our book character dress up day on Friday! Have a think about a character you could plan a costume for!

Tino pai, Iverson and Dolores, what a super start to week 6 you have had. Iverson has been focused when working on his follow up questions after reading his journal, and Dolores put herself in the learning pit and worked super hard on her subtracting skills today!
