Room 6's intro to computer science - Coding

Dear Room Six parents,

From week 5 this term, we have begun looking at the science behind computers, how do they work and how does a computer or a game do exactly what we want it to do???

We began by looking at the code.org website to understand what code was. We played games using Angry Birds and Frozen characters. We now have our own coding accounts, that we can use whenever we want.

The website for access is http://studio.code.org/sections/BUXBKO

Mr Lyons has your password to login, come and get it when you are ready to begin at home!!

Understanding Density - buddy class science

Some awesome learning went on between Room 6 (year3-4) and Room 19 (year5-6) during Science Week in term two. We predicted, experimented, observed and recorded our findings about two interesting floating topics - Density and Ballasts. The children used scientific skills to comment on and make changes to their experiments. They also got along together and showed awesome collaboration skills.

Room 6 Role Model

Jordan was Room 6's award winner at school assembly on May 15. He has been super helpful to others around the classroom. He is often seen trying hard to produce his best work and thinking. Keep it up Jordan, you are our super man this week.

Dog Awareness Day

The super exciting lecturer from Auckland Council came along to Owairaka School, Friday 15 May. Room 6 and Room 22 were given some helpful tips about approaching new dogs and how to cope with lots of different dog situations in public.

Despite the display dog sleeping his way through the lesson, our children learnt some safe and sensible ways to have fun around dogs in our neighbourhood.

Friday 15 - International Families Day

Our amazing, very own, school librarian Donna informs us that this Friday 15 May is International Families Day.

All families are unique, and they all need to be celebrated and recognised. Thanks for your involvement in your childs learning.

The librarians have an awesome blog post which shows some of the resources on offer about families. Check it out here...
