School Focus: Getting Along

Room 6 is proud of... Mozart and Sanaa

This week at assembly we celebrated the success of two awesome Room 6 learners.

Mozart continues to work hard on the Lexia program, to improve his reading skills. Teachers all around the school have noticed Mozart's effort and improvement with reading.

Sanaa gets her certificate for speaking more confidently in class - she can share her answers, thoughts, ideas and feelings with us, and is learning to share her opinions too!

Two great role models for the rest of us, well done Mozart and Sanaa!

Puriri Award Winners - Tasfia and Rowena

Wow we really do have some great mathematicians in Room Six! We have been making great progress learning and talking through "problem solving" in class this year.

Tasfia is always keen to learn and apply new maths ideas. She is always ready for extra learning opportunities.

Rowena knows all basic facts and has learnt heaps of her times tables. Your improvement has been MASSIVE Rowena. Well done.

Awesome effort girls.

Room 6 - Holiday Champions!!!

For the second time in 2016, the SUPER efforts of our Room 6 readers were recognised at school assembly. Every one of us not only did reading in the holidays, but also remembered to bring back their reading log.

Mr Lyons and Ms Whysall are really proud of you Room 6. We won because you all contributed to the team effort.

Classes in the fabulous Puriri team had great results in the reading log competition. Big congrats also goes to Room 25, who were first equal!

This one is for you Charlie!!! Love from all of Room 6.

Owairaka Choir

Congratulations to Eli and Ava, who performed with the Owairaka School Choir at the Auckland Town Hall last week.

Room 6 does Garden To Table

Room Six began Garden to Table lessons in Term 3. They are a great opportunity to learn and spend time together in and around the beautiful Owairaka School gardens, as well as pick up a whole lot of new kitchen skills.

Volunteers are always welcome to come and help us out, on even Wednedays at 11.15am.

Growth Mindset - Week 2

Fabulous Fila

Ms Lindfield and Mr Lyons have noticed the awesome attitude Fila has had at school this term. He is ready to learn and is always thoughtful with his ideas.

Fila is also a great role model when working with our Year 2 buddy class in morning yoga. He is focused, and makes the most of body and breathing exercises.

Nice one Fila!

Owai Community Gardens - Room 6 helps out

Room 6 helped out over at the Owairaka Kindergarten this week. We planted TEN new fruit trees down the side of the lane.

The idea is that as they grow over the next few years, we will all be able to share and enjoy the fruit they produce.

Thanks heaps to the awesome Heather Lyall for being the driving force behind the "Owairaka Eco-Neighbourhood", and for ensuring that local children have a chance to be so involved.

Puriri Award Winners - Alyzae and Casey

One of the things that makes Room 6 a special place to be is the willingness of all children to help each other.

Alyzae gives time EVERY day to take groups of three children up to the coop to look after our four chickens. She always takes the time to make sure others know what they are doing, and is a great teacher and role model in this job.

Casey is super good at noticing when others need a buddy for their work or group activities in class, and is willing to work with and help out anyone else in the class who needs it.

You are a great example for others girls, well done.
