Our KANBAN experiment... here we go!

Today is Day 2 of Room 6's journey into using a Kanban board to help us work through our weekly literacy activities.

Kanban is a Japanese system, which visually shows what learning activities need to be started, what learning activities are underway, and what ones have been completed.

Each reading group has their own activities that they need to get done, and at the end of the day they can reflect on how much they have achieved, and what their next steps are.

Here is a photo of our board on Day 1...

Meeting Clifford as part of winning the book raffle.

"Please do not wash your hands in the toilet." We should all remember this.

Salha's Super Start

Room 6 celebrated with Salha on Friday, when she was recognised for her positive and confident start to her time at Owairaka. Room 6 was proud to see you getting your certificate at assembly, well done Salha.

Find out why shadows change angle and size throughout the day.

Totally Terrific Tana

Room 6 has been writing about the legendary NZ woman, Whina Cooper. Tana wrote one of many excellent descriptive stories about the photo of Whina and her grandson setting off on their famous hikoi march.

You can check out all the Room 6 writing on the "Tabs" at the top of this page.

Well done Tana.

Sultans of Sudoku

Room 6 have gotten so good at Sudoku that we have upgraded to 6 x 6 squares.
They are much harder than 4 x 4, but we are using logical thinking and problem solving skills to work towards getting each square perfect!

Have a look at Jacob, Salha and Ketula's excellent efforts.

What happened to Jacob?

Never fear. While this photo evidence appears to show Jacob in a fairly fatal position, he is actually just (one of the) victims in a Detective Mystery game Room 6 has been playing at the end of the day.

Come into school just before 3pm to check it out!

Room 6 Garden to Table (Week 2)

Room 6 was back into Garden to Table in Week 2. On the menu were Russian cottage cheese pancakes, blueberry muffins, kale chips and a delicious garden salad. The workers outside (not in any photos!) braved the rain to do some awesome garden maintenance with our friend Laura.

Here are the kitchen photos!
