Duffy Theatre Show

Do you know what a Coggen is? Thanks to the amazing actors at the Duffy Theatre Show, we do! Here is a summary of what the show this week was all about...

Duffy is spending some time with his friend Bex and they are sharing their new favourite graphic novel series about hybrid animals. The twist is that Bex and her mum Lex have found a guy that can actually bring these animals to life! This means that Bex is the proud new owner of a pet coggen! A coggen is part cat, part dog and part chicken. Unfortunately, this coggen is a terror who they can’t control and he makes a massive mess before escaping and causing havoc throughout the neighbourhood. Duffy and Bex must read the rest of their stories to learn more about coggens before theirs destroys the environment around them.

You can read more about the actors here... https://www.booksinhomes.org.nz/team-blue.aspx.aspx

Thanks Duffy!

Green Week Certificate - Alex

This week in class, Room 19 has been learning about water access around the world. It made us realise that the easy access we have is not the same for others in different countries.

Well done Alex for doing thoughtful research and sharing some interesting water saving tips in your flipbook.

Room 19 enjoyed Green Week, and dressing up in Blue and Green for our special assembly on Friday.

Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week is about encouraging families to think about how they can help everyone have safe and active journeys to and from school.  Parking away from the school and walking in helps keep the area outside the school safer for students.  Walking, biking and scootering is a great way to add exercise into your week!  Please remember to use the crossings, it may take an extra minute or two but it is another way we can help you to stay safe.

Story Retell with our Buddy Class

One of the new learning areas we have been working on this term is Reo-a-Waha, also known as Oral Language.

Room 19 has been practicing retelling stories, using only picture prompts to guide us. We have found it really challenging not having any words to rely on!

We were invited to our buddy class (Room 6 - Kauri team) to share our retellings of Maui and the Big Fish, and Room 6 shared with us a Maori creation myth.

Take a look at some photos of us sharing the story at the end of term three.

See you next term buddies!

Manawanuitanga - We are Persistent

This week, we have been learning about persistence in Room 19. We know that this is one way to show manawanuitanga.

We have learnt that manawa (heart) and nui (big) means to be proud of ourselves and our learning, and to push on when things sometimes get challenging.

Children can share the following video with you at home and discuss what they know about 'the dip'.

- how many monkey bars would you touch if you skipped every second one?

It was great to see buddies working so well together! Ka pai Room 19.

Learning from Home - Week 6

Well done to those who have completed learning activities over the past week.

Here is a new story for you to read and enjoy.

In Māori culture, a rāhui is a form of tapu restricting access to, or use of, an area or resource to help protect it.

There is a rāhui in place in the Waitakere Ranges at the moment to help protect Kauri trees from kauri dieback disease.

In this story, the characters place a rāhui on their strawberry patch. I like it because it reminds me of our connection to nature and of our school value of Kaitiakitanga.

There are some questions and activities you to complete too. Remember to send through any work you are proud of.
