Room 6 and Owairaka now have two new chickens to take care for in our school coop.
The new chickens are "bantams", and they are about 3 years old. They come to us from a local family who needed to find them a new home.
It took about a week for the old residents (Turbo, Butter Chicken) to get used to the new arrivals, but they are getting on well now! We have already noticed there is more cleaning up to do in the coop each week, and we are having to provide lots more food and water!
We held a naming competition, and the winning names are:
- Dusty (from Zoe C, room 17)
- Pepper (from Mahalia, room 23)
Thanks for all your votes, and welcome to our two new additions!
School lunchtimes have been very busy lately, with lots of practising and heats in the lead up to the Owai's Got Talent final on Friday 24th June. There were some super performances, and Room 6 was very proud to see a LOT of our classmates performing and succeeding. WELL DONE from everyone in the Room 6 community to:
- Ava, who sang a powerful "Fight Song" as a duet with Berlin R23.
- Emacyn, who played "7 Days" on guitar, a very tricky skill indeed.
- Phillip, Jasper, Sinan and Omar, who wowed the crowd with flips, handstands, and rolls in their original Parkour routine. The boys were awarded FIRST place for their performance.
See you at next year's talent show! Start practicing now R6...

Room Six celebrated Matariki with our buddy class. On the first day we weaved stars, with some pretty awesome results, especially since it was many children's first time trying this skill!
You can try it yourself at home, have a look at this video for the steps.
On the second day, we made 3D stars, which involved colouring, cutting, folding, and gluing. You can see some of the photos from this day above.
Thanks to R22 for another fun buddy class learning experience. See you again soon!

Room 6 loves Friday morning, because it is our time to visit the awesome Owairaka School library.
We are great at supporting our classmates with their reading.
Here is a photo of Emi and Mozart enjoying a book together.

Rooms 10 and 23 put on an awesome "Matariki" assembly in Week 6. Eli was our class award winner.
Eli has made awesome progress with his learning so far in 2016. He is organised for class, and has done some awesome independent writing. This week he enjoyed working on 'narrative' writing.
We have been learning to write interesting narratives. We know that stories have a beginning, middle, and ending. We know that descriptive writing is interesting for our readers! We have been describing problems and resolutions.
The video we wrote about this week was called the "Dream Giver". You can watch it at home by clicking here.

Questyn - has made excellent progress with basic facts in maths this term! He can also look for clues in maths story problems to help figure out what the equation is! Nice one Questyn.
Phillip and Jasper - had a super Green Week, and have done lots of extra earth worm learning in preparation for the Green Day assembly on Friday. They have been great role models for their buddy groups in Room Six.
Ka pai boys!
Congratulations Room 6 for the awesome learning and preparation you did for the Green Day Assembly in Term 2. We loved to hear you share your earth worm learning. You were all super confident to give it a go and share with such a large audience.
Ms Whysall even mentioned it on her post on the school website... WOW!
