Gazoom Rockets

We learnt that unbalanced forces cause a change in the motion of an object. We used water and alka seltzer tablets to cause a pressure change in our rocket canisters.

When the Alka Seltzer tablet is added to water a chemical reaction occurs and CO2 is produced. As more CO2 is produced, the pressure inside the cannister increases until the seal of the lid is broken. The release of pressure provides the ‘push’ that launches the rocket.

3, 2, 1... Lift Off!

In Science this week, we have been learning about the forces needed to make rockets work! We know that a force is needed to make a rocket fly. It could be a puff, push, or thrust.

For our first experiment, we made puff rockets, and then tried to answer these two questions by changing our puff strength and angle of release:

Check out some photos of us experimenting with our puff rockets below. We will be doing more rocket experiments later this week!

Community Artwork with Lou

One of our Owairaka parents, Lou, does lots of awesome art projects in the community. When she approached Room 19 to see if they were interested in doing some art to beautify the new build sites around the school, we quickly said yes! Check out some of our collaborative art here, and keep an eye out around the neighbourhood to see some huge copies of our work.
