Puriri Pupuhi Nui (Swim Sports) 2021

We beat the weather and successfully held our Puriri Team Pupuhi Nui (Big Splash!) on Monday. All Room 19 children took part, and some even decided to enter ALL eight swimming events. It was great to see and hear the children cheering on their school mates.

We have gained lots of water confidence at school this term. Today was a great chance to show off some of our skills.

Oakley Creek - Cleanup and Playground Visit

Room 19 recently took part in a clean up of our local awa (river) - Oakley Creek. We further explored our backyard when we checked out the traditional Maori 'hupara' playground along with our fellow Year 3 classes.

Try out this quiz about Oakley Creek with your family!

Owairaka Maunga Walk

Room 19 enjoyed participating in the Puriri Team hikoi to Owairaka Mountain this week. It was fun to try and identify some of iconic Auckland landmarks.

Have a look at the list, it would be great if your family visited our local maunga so your children could show you some of their impressive "In Our Backyard" knowledge.

Water Safety and Survival Skills

We have learnt some very important water survival skills with our swimming coaches this term. We know how to use a lifejacket, do a range of different survival strokes, stay warm, and how to assist others when they get into trouble in the water.

Thank you to the coaches for the exciting activities you planned for us.

Kia Ora,
We have explored our own backyard at Owairaka mountain after lunch times this week. We have been building our hut and even discovered an already built hut. Today I spotted a weta whilst climbing! It was very well camouflaged.
Have you seen a weta in real life?

Lilou

Learning from Home #1

Our Learning Inquiry - The Hauraki Gulf

Dear families,

Room 19 is about to begin 21 days of learning, thinking, and creating to find out more about we can be kaitiaki the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

Hopefully we will be able to complete most of our learning in class, however in the meantime, you can access the first two days of learning by clicking the image below.

We aim to find out more about the marine taonga of Auckland - the Hauraki Gulf, as well as build an understanding of the importance of the ocean to many people in various ways.

We are all kaitiaki!

Note - talking through these activities will be the subject of our "Google Meets" over the next two days.
