Story Retell with our Buddy Class
One of the new learning areas we have been working on this term is Reo-a-Waha, also known as Oral Language.
Room 19 has been practicing retelling stories, using only picture prompts to guide us. We have found it really challenging not having any words to rely on!
We were invited to our buddy class (Room 6 - Kauri team) to share our retellings of Maui and the Big Fish, and Room 6 shared with us a Maori creation myth.
Take a look at some photos of us sharing the story at the end of term three.
See you next term buddies!

Caught Being Good - Elaina and Sibley
Certificate time - Ka Pai to Elaina and Sibley, who received Caught Being Good certificates at the end of term three.
Elaina has made an excellent effort with completing all her home learning during term and lockdown time. Sibley confidently retold us the story of Maui and the Big Fish as part of our Reo-a-Waha (Oral Language) learning.
Well done girls!

Our Final Arts Lesson
For the past eight weeks, we have been travelling around the various Year 3 teachers to get an Arts experience.
We started in Room 19 and did some exciting Drama. After that was Dance with Mrs Murray. Then we moved onto Andy for some Music lessons. Finally, we went to Nikki in Room 18 and completed two weeks of Visual Arts.
It was a great way to get a little taste of what all these awesome subjects have to offer.

Manawanuitanga - We are Persistent
This week, we have been learning about persistence in Room 19. We know that this is one way to show manawanuitanga.
We have learnt that manawa (heart) and nui (big) means to be proud of ourselves and our learning, and to push on when things sometimes get challenging.
Children can share the following video with you at home and discuss what they know about 'the dip'.

Music Lessons
Room 19 has been going to music lessons on Tuesday afternoon since our return to school.
We have been learning to play different instruments - ukelele, guitar, marimba, African drum.
We have also been learning about rhythm. We can play patterns by reading music.

On the Maths Trail!
Check out Room 19 exploring Owairaka on a Maths Trail (scavenger hunt type) activity this week. We answered questions like:
- how many wheels in the carpark?
- what are five shapes you can find around the school buildings?
- how many monkey bars would you touch if you skipped every second one?
It was great to see buddies working so well together! Ka pai Room 19.
