What is Art?

In class, we have been talking about the idea of art - and whether it can be right or wrong. We read the story "Ish" by Peter H Reynolds, and then shared our ideas about what we think art is.

So, maybe at home you could answer this question...

Here is the story if you would like to watch at home together. Share your ideas in the comments section.

Please keep an eye on our class blog for some fun and creative learning opportunities for you and your families. You can complete these in the way that works best for your family.

You can also access the learning websites we use in class through our blog. Check the links at the top of the page. Send Sam an email if you have forgotten your password for any of these.

Please also send through any work, photos, writing etc. that you want to share with me. You can send these to slyons@owairaka.school.nz

Keep in touch, and I hope to see you all very soon.

BatFirst Cricket comes to Owairaka

BatFirst is an initiative by KiwiSport to give lots of Year 3 children in Auckland the chance to learn some basic cricket skills, AND take home their very own bat and ball.

Room 19 was visited by BatFirst during week 6, and we spent time designing our own cricket bats, then we had a go batting and bowling out on the field.

Thanks KiwiSport!

Caught Being Good - Charlie and Joe

Awesome work Charlie and Joe, you were Caught Being Good this week.

Charlie has shown that he is organised and ready for learning each day, and has filled in his reading log almost every night.

Joe has an excellent attitude to learning, and always participates in discussions by listening and sharing.

Howick Historical Village

Puriri team enjoyed visiting the Howick Historical Village during week 5. In class we have been learning about Pakeha/Maori voyages to New Zealand and relations in the 1800's, so it was amazing to get a look at what life was like in Auckland for the immigrants from England.

Thank you to the parents who volunteered to come along and support us.

Happy Green/Blue Day from Room 19

Learning with Lifejackets

As part of our water safety sessions we have been learning about the proper and safe use of lifejackets in the water. We have practised scenarios for both the ocean and rivers.

Thanks to the awesome coaches from Swimsation for giving us so many useful tips.
