This week at Puriri Assembly we recognised Dotty and Rafin for "Caught Being Good". Dotty has shown that she is super confident when sharing her ideas, and Rafin has learnt all the class rules and is able to be a good role model and follow them.

What is a Nogard?

WALT: listen to instructions to draw the animal we imagine

What is a nogard?

The nogard is an animal. It has an oval- shaped body. It has a long neck and tail. The top of the neck, back and tail are covered with a row of triangular-shaped plates. The nogard’s head is shaped like a long triangle. It has big eyes and eyebrows that stick out. It also has big nostrils. Its body is covered with scales. The nogard has four short legs. At the end of each leg is a foot with five toes. Each toe has a sharp claw at the end. The nogard has two wings attached to its body. These are located behind the front legs towards the top of its back. Nogards are usually green but change to a deep purple during the winter months.

Whakatōmene - To Explore and Discover

Our school theme for the year is Whakatōmene - which means to "explore and discover".

We started off with a visit from Mrs Johns' car club - which got us talking about the past. Then we had a go at placing some famous historical events on a timeline for a class display (first we had to discuss what a timeline was).

Come into Room 19 to see where we placed events such as: dinosaurs on Earth, the moon landing, electric cars, and Sir Edmund Hillary climbing Everest.

The School Pool is open

Caught Being Good - Tyson and Jack

We had our first Puriri team assembly during week one. We met all the teachers, did some singing and dancing, and some children received certificates and a book from the Duffy 'Caught Being Good' program.

Well done Tyson and Jack, our first two Room 19 certificate winners this year.

Meeting our Buddy Class

Our buddy class this year is Room 6 (Kauri team). We met our buddies during week one, and we did an exciting scavenger hunt around the school. Here are some of the clues we had to use:

- find something starting with "T"
- find two classrooms whose two numbers added together equal 15
- find an eight sided shape
- find something you can carry water in

We got some interesting answers!

We are looking forward to working with our buddy class during 2020.
