Our special gift from Richie McCaw

Well we didn't win a flying visit from the great Richie McCaw, but we were super excited to receive a signed All Blacks jersey from Richie!

Mrs Fletcher told Room 19 that Richie was very impressed with our video, and the effort the whole class put into our filming. Well done Room 19, we can't wait to share our cool prize with the whole school. We would love Mrs Fletcher to display it in the school library.

School Certificate: Chelsy

Chelsy was recognised at school assembly in week four. She always shows Manaakitanga in class - she is caring and respectful of others, and always thinks of ways to include others in her learning and friend groups.

Ka pai Chelsy - you are helping to make Room 19 an inclusive, "we can do it" classroom.

Milo and Muffin morning

Thanks to the Rimu team for giving Owairaka our first "Milo and Muffin" morning. It was a great way to warm ourselves up, and to support the younger children in the school as they get ready for some exciting trips later in the year.

Learning about Times Tables

Lots of us have been enjoying using this great poster to help learn times tables. Remember the three steps:

1 - say the numbers e.g. 3, 6, 9, 12...

2 - say the times tables e.g. 1x3=3, 2x3=6, 3x3=9...

3 - mix up the times tables e.g. 5x3=15, 9x3=27, 2x3=9...

Caught Being Good: Fahtima

Well done Fahtima - you have shown awesome Manawanuitanga in class this term. You have been spotted doing some great thinking during maths problem solving, and learning lots of times tables too! AND you have been a great buddy during our new reading program. What a great start to term two!

Buddy Reading in Room 19?

We are trying a new type of reading in Room 19 this term. As well as reading with our teacher, we spend 15 minutes each day reading with our buddy! We have to remember to agree on a book, sit together (knee to knee), and to decide how we are going to split up the reading aloud.

We are practising asking questions to our buddy using Who, What, When, Where and Why. When we get really good at buddy reading we will share our skills with the Rimu team!
