School Certificate - J'Varn
Congratulations J'Varn - you are someone who your teacher could give a certificate to every week. But lately you have been working extra hard on maths thinking and sharing ideas in your group. You are definitely working hard right until the end of the year!
Special congratulations also to Lincoln, who was spotted at the end of the Eden/Albert Cultural Festival collecting rubbish, by a principal from a different school. What a great way to be a kaitiaki of your environment.

Thank you to the awesome parents and grandparents who accompanied us up Owairaka Mountain on Friday for our first ever Puriri Maunga Munch.
All the classes in the middle school have been learning about healthy eating, and it was so cool to put some of our learning into practice, when we made lots of yum items to share with everyone at the top of Owairaka.

NZ 'Shake Out' Day 2018
Today (Thursday 18 October) is national 'Shake Out' Day. It is a chance for all of us to practice what to do if a natural disaster occurs in New Zealand. We will practice the 'drop, cover, hold' technique, and then evacuate our school buildings.
It is important to be prepared.

Keep NZ Beautiful - local clean up
This week, Rooms 19, 23, and 25 participated in a clean-up of our local area, to mark Keep NZ Beautiful Week 2018.
We collected a heap of plastic, glass, and paper from Murray Halberg Park, local streets, and Owairaka Mountain.
We had to handle some extreme weather, one minute it would be sunny and the next a rain storm! Well done to all who took part, and thank you to our parent helpers (Jacob, Tracey, Talia, Yona, and Emily). We all made a difference!

Our very own Tough Guy
That guy on the right is Antonio (if you don't recognise him!) Antonio has shown commitment by turning up to Wednesday morning runs at school, every week this year. So this week we took him to the "Junior Tough Guy" challenge in West Auckland. It was super muddy and such a challenge to get through the 3km.
Well done Antonio - we are proud of you!

Look at all the fruit stickers
Yesterday at Garden to Table, Libby noticed all the fruit stickers in our garden soil.
We realised they got there because they are going into the green bins at our school, and when the food waste breaks down, the stickers don't.
Look how many stickers we collected in 2 minutes from one area in our school!
Our first Garden to Table lesson
During term three, some of the Puriri team are participating in weekly Garden to Table (G2T) lessons.
Half the class works in the garden, while the other half works in the kitchen to prepare a delicious meal to share together.
This week, we enjoyed pumpkin salad, green bean pesto dip, and homemade crackers.
We are lucky to have volunteer adult help in the kitchen, but we always need more! If you are available to help on Wednesdays (times rotate 3 weekly), then please have a chat to Mr Lyons.

Matariki Screenprinting with our friend Paula
Thank you to our super creative volunteer artist, Paula, who came in during Matariki to help us with an awesome screen printing activity.
We had to choose stars or fishes (or both!), as well as two different colours of paint, to complete our artwork. We had read a lot of Matariki legends during the week, and this was a really fun way to finish our Matariki learning.
Thanks Paula!
