Congratulations Joyce!

Joyce is a super valuable member of Room 6. We have been focusing on "responsibility" over the last two weeks. Joyce is ready for learning every day, she is a great listener, and has grown HEAPS with her confidence to share her thoughts and ideas with the class.

Ka pai - keep it up Joyce!

Science Week 2016

Room Six had a great time during Science Week.

We worked with our buddy class Room 22 on some really cool mini projects.

You can see how we made "Square Bubbles" by watching this video.

You can see how we made "Balloon Powered Cars" by clicking here.

We also investigated the reaction between vinegar and baking soda, using the resulting gas to inflate our own balloons!

Puriri Certificate Winners - Victor and Brandon

Certificates this week went to two very deserving winners!

Brandon has made HUGE progress with his maths and reading, and is always keen to learn new ideas and strategies to help him be a better learner.

Victor did some great writing this week - we have been learning to write instructions, and he wrote a great list of steps for "How to make a balloon powered car".

Well done boys.

Holiday Reading Champions - Room 6 and Room 5

Congratulations Room 6 (and our R5 neighbours!) for winning the Holiday Reading Log challenge!

This is a great way to keep your reading up over the long school holiday, as well as the cool feeling of winning a class certificate and set of brand new books for our class library.

Well done Room 6 2016 - you guys are committed to getting better at reading and you are deserving champions!

Look at Lorenzo!

Lorenzo has made a great start to term two. He has been active in class discussions and learning about ANZAC Day.

He has also worked really well with his Y6 buddy to design and build a 'balloon powered car'.

Lorenzo is always a role model because he is ready to learn, and is keen to give everything a go! Keep it up Renzo.

Lujain has been great at working collaboratively in her team to complete an ANZAC Day fact finding project this week - she is a great listener and is great at encouraging her team mates. Nice one.

Sanaa has spoken confidently in front of the whole class when she read the pepeha to us on Wednesday morning. Well done.

Philosophy in Room Six!

Tuesday afternoon is philosophy time in Room Six. We usually start with a shared book, this week we read the story "The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek" by Jenny Wagner.

It is about a confused creature (the bunyip) who is not sure what he is, who he is, or whether he is handsome.

We then have a chance to listen to, or respond to some questions that make us think about what we have heard in the story. Some of the questions from our discussion this week were:

- why didn't the bunyip know what he was?
- is WHAT we are the same as WHO we are?
- how do we find out who we really are?
- can we find out who we are by looking in the mirror?

Keep an eye out on the class blog for more ways room six is using a 'philosophical' way of thinking.

Race Relations Day - Casey is a proud Thai

Casey spoke confidently in front of her Room Six classmates on Race Relations Day in term one.

She spent a lot of time at home preparing for the day, speaking with her mum and doing research into the culture of Thailand.

She shared a mountain of interesting information and showed her knowledge, it was super impressive to listen to. Thanks Casey, it is awesome to see how proud you are of your culture.

Homework Week 1B

Dear Room Six parents and children, welcome back for term two.

Something that we tried last year was using "Google Forms" to complete our homework. The questions are the same as the paper homework that will still come home each Monday. Give it a try, and give any + or - feedback/suggestions to Mr Lyons.

(this is currently only for Homework B, please let me know if you would like to see your child's homework in this form also!)
