A quick look at "problem solving" in Room Six

You may have seen or heard the phrase "problem solving" in maths learing this year. In short, it is a collaborative approach to maths learning where children apply taught strategies to real life story contexts and questions. Here is a quick look at a maths lesson from one day in room six. We will make more videos soon where children explain their own mathematical reasoning.

What's wrong with our bees?

Some keen eyes have spotted a problem with our school honey bees. At the front of our beehive (on the school field) there are quite a few dead bees, some of which have obvious problems with their bodies like no wings, and weird shaped abdomens. This is not unusual, but it means we have to act fast. The destructive varroa mite is in our hive, so we have put in a treatment to control their impact.

We are hoping that we have done this just in time! Here is Ms Christinson inspecting a few of the dead bees. In the meantime, Mazey and Melbourne are continuing to give our bees a fresh and closeby source of water.

What makes Owairaka a special green school?

Green Day - Term 3 2015

Dear Room 6,

While Mr Lyons had an average day with his camera, Ms Whysall certainly did not. She has posted some awesome photos on our school website which give you just a little taste of all the hard work by children and staff to prepare for our very important Green Gold review day.
