Room 6 Has Talent - 2015
Tuesday and Wednesday in Week 2 were the heats of one of our newest events at school, Owai's Got Talent.
There were some awesome performances, including these three groups, with Room 6 children showing HEAPS of confidence and talent:
Congratulations to:
- James and Jordan
- Claire and Lucy
- Amy, Mala, Loretta, Ketula (who will also be performing in the FINAL next Friday August 7. Good luck girls.
Stand up if your name starts with "J"
James and John-David are excellent independent writers.
A great writer remembers:
- who they are writing for and why
- to use words to keep the writer interested and informed.
These two boys are great listeners in planning time, and they love to use new words in their own writing!

ALICE and the Waterview Tunnel
So you might have noticed a bit of construction going on over behind the back fence at Owairaka. Auckland City is building a tunnel. It's a pretty big deal, especially for those of you who live so close to school!
Our super librarian Donna found this "drone" video to show how just what the work site looks like! Really cool. Have a look here...

Puriri Sport
The Puriri team at Owairaka has been working on physical skills every Thursday afternoon. Each week Room 6 gets to learn and practice a different skill with a different teacher.
This week Room 6 worked on "circut training". We moved continuously for 30 minutes, and did things like jogging, vertical jumping, sit-ups, basketball dribbling and passing, sprinting and skipping.
Victor about to take flight. Mazey doing work.
Mala and Amy jumping cones.
Who needs a second foot when one will do.
How Do You Measure a Kiwi?
The Alligator boys and Snake group were right back into Reading in Week 1! They read a great story called "How Do You Measure a Dinosaur?" It was all about measurement. We then went outside and did our own enlarging activity of a kiwi bird.
We made 8x8 1 metre squares, and drew chalk lines. We then studied each square and enlarged the pattern from each one onto the bigger chalk squares.

Dear Room 6 parents... welcome to term 3. Here is the link to week 1 homework.
Google Forms is not the best for the layout of homework in the next couple of weeks, but you can still submit your answers once you have worked them out.
