Week 10 Award Winner...
Room 6 celebrated Oisin's triumphant collection of the yellow certificate on Friday with a special photo on our school friendship seat.
Oisin was spotted being super responsible when working independently at Garden to Table during the week.
Well done Oisin, keep it up.
R6 Garden to Table - and our special visitor!
Garden to Table on Wednesday was a little bit special for Room 6. Not only was pizza on the menu, but we were lucky to have a visit and demonstration by the awesome Andy from Stumpy's Pizza.
Andy showed rooms 6, 10, and 22 how to spin pizza dough (which he manages to do with one hand!), and make an extra thin pizza base. He worked with some children to prepare pizza bases for our lunch, and even had time to hang around and eat with us.
Room 6 learnt some awesome new skills. and had a delicious shared lunch.
You can see Stumpy's menu (Dominion Road, Mt Roskill) here... http://www.stumpys.nz/menu.html

Kid's Philosophy learning - Room 6
Room 6 have been thinking "philosophically" in class P4C lessons this year.
On Friday, we were lucky to have Heather (Oisin's mum) come in to teach a session about "believing others".
She read this great book Rose Meets Mr Wintergarten to the class, and then we had a circle discussion.
Heather's talk was about how sometimes it's easy to believe what others tell us, without question. We talked about how our assumptions are not always right.
Thanks for visiting Heather!

King James and the healthy honey bees
Friday lunchtime was our latest (quick) inspection of our school beehive. In winter time we want to disrupt our bees as little as possible, so they can keep the warmth they generate inside the hive. They don't like the cold. James (R6) and Hana (R11) checked for any signs of varroa mites, which are a big problem for all hives in New Zealand. Our hive was all clear, great news!
We will check in again, before the end of term 2, to see if they have enough honey to last through the school holiday!

Can you solve this puzzle?
On Friday, Room 6 tried to solve this question from the illustration above - "What parking spot number is the car parked in?".
See if you can solve the problem parents!

Green Day Term Two
Friday June 5 was Green Day at Owairaka. It was also "World Environment Day". The theme for this year was: Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.
Room Six completed a fabulous, and very informative "taonga trail" around the school which was setup by Ms Christison. We had to identify and then locate some of the amazing enviro sculptures around or school. These were some of the clues:
"Hi... we will give you something sweet and runny that you can eat for a treat".
"Talofa lava... come and relax, have a meeting or a song and enjoy the cool breeze".
"I'm shaped like an igloo and I can smoke a bit, but I'll cook you something that will sure taste good".
Parents... can you guess what the answers are? (ask your children if you don't know!).
Lucy was our green certificate winner at assembly today. She gives lots of care and love to our three school chickens, Klucky, Butter Chicken, and Turbo. They always have fresh greens and grit to eat, as well as fresh water to drink. Thanks Lucy for caring so much in and out of school hours!
